This week I am back with the first post in a while! Spring has come and gone here in Jozankei. It feels like we are in the beginning of Summer now with the trees a lush green and the blue skies. The weather does flip-flop a bit as some evenings have been still pretty cool requiring a light jacket. A reminder that Hokkaido is an island quite far to the north and the summers are the shortest season.

Locale-JZK is the Soft Cream specialty shop and cafe which my wife and I operate here in Jozankei. During the winter season, we run the cafe out of the mountaintop location at the peak of Sapporo Kokusai, so if you ski or snowboard you may be familiar with our operation there!
We will be taking our ice cream and some special menu items into the city this coming weekend, so if you are in the Sapporo area, please come and visit us!
★ Pop-Up Shop Announcement ★ May 24 (Fri), 25 (Sat), 26 (Sun) Blue_Cafe Located in the Taiyo Building 1F (west side), Minami 3-jo Nishi 8-chome, Chuo-ku. Opening hours will vary each day, so make sure to check the times listed below.
We will be serving casual food items like San Diego-style Chicken Tacos, Vegetarian Ahijo with Avocado, and more.
Three types of additive-free Soft Cream "Affogato" will also be available. This will be a chance to taste the delicious Soft Cream served at Locale-JZK without having to visit Jozankei!
The cafe is small and cozy and features a fantastic sound system with the legendary Altec speakers often found in movie theaters. I will be taking full advantage of the opportunity to play some music from my personal record collection! Each day will be presented on a slightly different theme, but everything will be feel-good music in the “West Coast” groove genre!

I am slowly getting better at using this AI tool as a true assistant. It is hard to break the old habits and ways of thinking. I am so used to doing things on my own or having to ask another person for help. In the past creating this flyer would have been a huge complicated process. Money would probably be exchanged and I would have to ask someone to make the flyer. Now the entire process took only a few hours. The illustrations were done in about 5 minutes. After that, I brought the images into Adobe Illustrator and worked to get the text laid out. Confirming everything with the staff and the other collaborators is what took the longest amount of time.
Each time I use Chat-GPT I am blown away by the sheer possibilities of what can be done. Now with this latest release of 4o, the game has changed again.
There is a lot of talk about AI taking people's jobs away. I don’t know if I can speak to that properly, but I can say that the people who use AI LLMs properly will be taking away jobs from the people who don’t use them, that is a guarantee!
New workflows will be the key to success in this new AI future. Finding the right way to incorporate the app into your life and work will be key. I will probably be sharing my ideas and personal techniques here in these newsletters as I learn more myself.
